Kartarpur is the birthplace of Dandi Swami Virjanand Saraswati, the great Guru of Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati, the founder of Arya Samaj. Dandi Swami Shri Guru Virjanand was a unique and supremely talented person. He was a true patriot from the core of his heart and a propagator of Vedic civilization and Sanskrit. He took revolutionary steps and presented a logical concept of Vedas and Arsha literature. His biggest contribution to the service of the nation was that he prepared a disciple like Rishi Dayanand who, as a Guru, devoted his entire life to the propagation of Vedic culture and Arsha literature. Kartarpur is located 16 km from Jalandhar on the Delhi-Jalandhar Amritsar main railway line and GT road. In the sacred memory of the great Guru Virjanand, a Gurukul named “Shri Guru Virjanand Gurukul” is functioning in Kartarpur since 1970. This is a residential institution in which all the brahmacharis and almost all the teachers live in the premises of the Gurukul. According to the ancient Indian cultural tradition, this Gurukul not only provides free education, but also free accommodation and food arrangements are made here and in this way brahmacharis of all classes and categories of this Gurukul, whether rich or poor, live and study in the same way as brahmacharis used to live in the Gurukul of Maharishi Sandipani in ancient times. Where Krishna and Sudama used to live and study together. This Gurukul is affiliated with Gurukul Kangri University and the brahmacharis who take admission here in the sixth class, after studying till the fifteenth class, are given the certificate of Vedalankar-Vidyalankar which is equivalent to B.A. by Gurukul Kangri University. At present, about 180 brahmacharis are studying in this Gurukul. The number of teachers here including the principal is 15. All these Acharyas are highly educated and are fully empowered to guide the brahmacharis in building their future. In this Gurukul, not only training is given in Vedic scriptures and rituals but also in English, Science, Mathematics and Sociology, Philosophy and Politics and Computer, which are at par with the educational standards of modern educational institutions. We claim that the level of knowledge of our brahmacharis in all subjects is very good. In this Gurukul, brahmacharis from almost all the states of India come to get education and thus this Gurukul presents a view of a miniature India. Most of the brahmacharis are from those parts of the country where Christian missionaries are taking advantage of their poverty and are engaged in converting them by luring them with free education and high positions in the future. Generally people wish to save their culture and their religion if they find any other alternative in this form. Only our institution provides this option, however our Gurukul does not have sufficient space and funds to admit such students and make arrangements for free food etc. Considering the current financial sources and available space, we are not in a position to admit more than 160-170 brahmacharis in our Gurukul. This Gurukul does not have any fixed income. In this situation, it is running only on the donations given by generous gentlemen. Those gentlemen are doing a very pious work by helping in this Gurukul education by freeing the students of the poor class from the clutches of the missionaries who convert people. Special efforts are made to develop the art of debate and speech discourse among the brahmacharis. So that they can become good preachers and priests. For this, we present Vaagvardhini based songs, shlokas, discourses in Hindi, English and Sanskrit etc. This is held under the chairmanship of the Principal of Vaagvardhini Gurukul. Gurukul has its own Gaushala to provide the best milk, ghee etc. to the brahmacharis, which fulfills all the needs of the brahmacharis for ghee, milk etc. The students here participate in inter-school, inter-university Sanskrit and other competitions. This develops their talent and the students also gain knowledge about other subjects by discussing contemporary topics.<\/p>\n\t
